Philanthropist George Weiss, who donated Folly Farm to city, dies at 95

Passing of George Weiss - The city recently received the sad news that George Weiss passed away on Wednesday. He was 95 years old, was a Korean war veteran, and lived an amazing life. Safety Harbor benefitted greatly from his huge generosity as he donated the ten acres of land that are now our Folly Farm Nature Preserve . George's vision was to create a natural environment within a small suburban community that inspires residents to learn about and appreciate an undeveloped, natural habitat in their own backyard. We are happy to say that his vision was fulfilled as Folly Farm is now a natural park with a community garden for all our residents to enjoy and to learn about nature. While George will be greatly missed, we can take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his cherished wife, Lucille. Thank you George for all you have done for our city!
