At its Monday night meeting, the Safety Harbor City Commission voted unanimously to approve two agreements removing Lot 9 on Elm Street from a previously approved land transfer for Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas & West Pasco Counties to build homes for people in need.
The original agreement had Habitat paying off the remaining balance the city owed Pinellas County Schools for six lots on Elm Street in exchange for building homes on each lot. Lot 9 ended up having special considerations, and Habitat is moving forward with five of the homes now, and introduced three of the families who will receive the homes Monday night. Habitat and Pinellas County Schools will now work out the details for the final lot and the city will not be a party to those discussions.
