During the Audience to be Heard portion of Monday night's Safety Harbor City Commission meeting, former Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center Executive Director Janet Hooper asked Commission to approve an additional $200,000 donation to help fund the center's 1,500-square-foot expansion project.
Hooper told Commission that the cost of the expansion had skyrocketed and that she was able to secure additional funding from Pinellas County, and with $200,000 more from Safety Harbor, the center would be able to move quickly on building the now nearly $1.4 million expansion.
Hooper had previously asked Commission for $350,000 but received $250,000.
Commissioners were hesitant to make a decision on the spot and voted unanimously to add the request to the agenda for the Feb. 19 Commission meeting.
