City Commission votes to give Mattie Williams Center an additional $200,000

At its Feb. 19 meeting, the Safety Harbor City Commission unanimously voted to give the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center an additional $200,000 in funding for its planned expansion.

At its previous meeting, Commission heard from former Mattie Williams Executive Director Janet Hooper, who said construction costs had jumped from $650,000 to $1.395 million and the center needed more money from the city in order to move forward with its expansion that will expand the space for its existing food pantry and add special for new programs. 

City Commission had previously approved $250,000 of the requested $350,000 for the project.
