Florida schools gird for new rules on books, cell phones and more

Florida has several new education-related laws set to take effect in just a couple of weeks.

School district officials say implementing them is not easy.

The changes they faces cover a wide range of complicated topics, including the financial implications of expanded vouchers and classroom culture changes related to cell phones and social media, as NPR’s On Point reports.

During a board meeting Tuesday, Pinellas County superintendent Kevin Hendrick said the state has assured superintendents that it will move faster to adopt rules for schools to follow. The Department of Education held several rule-making sessions last week and plans to get the updates on the books at the State Board of Education’s July 19 meeting.
