Migrant teen died after seizure in Safety Harbor shelter, autopsy shows

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will close its investigation into the death of a 17-year-old Honduran boy at a Safety Harbor shelter after an autopsy released on Friday ruled it an accident.

The District Six Medical Examiner’s office determined Ángel Maradiaga Espinoza died on May 10 from a seizure disorder.

Three days before Espinoza’s death, his cousin in Tampa and U.S. sponsor, sent an email with information about the teen’s epilepsy to the shelter for unaccompanied migrant children run by Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Children Services.
