Owl Team earns accolades for its efforts in Safety Harbor, beyond

Two years ago, a small group of concerned citizens attempted to rescue a family of horned owls at Philippe Park. The owls were secondhand victims of consuming rats poisoned with anti-coagulant rodenticide used in traps throughout the city and other parts of Pinellas County.

They printed their own brochures, which they handed out to businesses and homeowners in an effort to educate about the unintended effects that certain types of rat poison have on owls and other raptors. They also made a plea to the city to stop using the poison in its rodent control program.
