For more than 25 years, the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center has been providing goods, services, and programs to north county families from a small facility outside downtown.
What began in 1996 as the Safety Harbor Family Center, a vision of longtime community contributor Curtis McCoy, quickly outgrew its home before relocating to its current spot at 1003 Martin Luther King Jr. St. N. in 2000. The organization added the building behind it in 2008.
Despite the extra space, the center’s board members, staff and volunteers couldn’t keep pace with the center’s growth, particularly after the pandemic, when the need for their services tripled in three years.
